Fun NG+ Options/Cheats, Not E3 2026 and Chill Games
Hello. I was adding reminders to my Wish List 2026 post that I’ll make later and it kind of dawned on me that a lot of what I want could more or less exist within current games if the developers put in cheats or different rules after you complete a game. I started playing Breath of the Wild on Cemu because I wanted to be Linkle and I was just collecting things on the Great Plateau really. Bugs, lizards, frogs, butterflies, you name it. I was kind of thinking about a low/no stakes game where you just ran around and collected shit and then I thought, that could just be in this game if you removed all the enemies. It would be cool if after you beat Breath of the Wild that you could turn off all enemies and then just explore the game. I would love to walk around all of Hyrule without the annoyance of Chuchu’s showing up or stal enemies popping up out of nowhere. I was thinking too it would be fun to have an infinite shield cheat so you could go shield surfing all over the place without the fear of breaking it. Cemu might have a cheat like that but it would just be cool if it was in the game on its own.
I’ve finished Metroid Prime 4 so I’ve been playing Dread again and was nearing the end so I Googled if there was a New Game+ mode. I was sure there wasn’t but thought I’d check. Found a Reddit page of someone asking and one of the top comments was like “Why would you want that? IMO finding all the items is the fun part.” Well that’s all well and good for YOUR opinion but obviously the OP thought differently and yes, on your first playthrough, sure. But that’s the point of NG+ ass clown. I want to run around as metriod Samus more than the two minutes you get in the last segment of the game. Not having the over powered constant omega laser but even that could be fun. It would be fun to have all the powers right from the get go and smash your way through the game. If you want to be a stick in the mud then just have that mode not go towards “unlocks/achievements/rewards.” The only thing like that in Dread is different gallery pictures you unlock for finishing the game, getting all the items, finishing it fast, hard mode, ect. I saw the boss rush option in the top right so I went in there thinking maybe at least that would give you all the powers but no. You basically get whatever you would’ve/should have at that point in the game, like, come on. To make that interesting you could’ve given us all the power ups and then make the boss have a different phase or two for a new surprise/challenge.
Sony had a state of play the other day, nothing really grabbed my attention. I don’t know who Wolverine is for but I know it’s not for me. People are excited about it, happy for them but I don’t get it. Insomniac likes their redheaded sidekicks huh? God of War has a new game coming out. I didn’t watch the whole trailer, I didn’t want to be spoiled too much with the story but I don’t know how to feel about it either. It looks really cool but then there’s this cube thing. Just a cube. And then they show the combat and the cube is there helping and I’m reminded that God of War has this companion aspect to the combat that I’m not a huge fan of already and then the companion is a cube. Like it just goes from looking really cool and interesting and then the cube is there and I can’t quite take it seriously anymore. I also don’t understand why Faye is like trying to get back to Kratos and Atreus, like she dead. She marked trees to be used for her death pyre, she knew she was dying or something or did she forget? I don’t know. I don’t really care that Daredevil’s Karen is the actress/who they’re using the likeness of like a lot of other people seem to. My only thought was she’s not as muscular as I’d imagine a god-like being would be but I guess that doesn’t really matter when you are a god-like being. I mean, Thor is fat and Odin is scrawny West Wing man so whatever I guess.
I started playing God of War 2018, not because of the Laufey trailer or anything but because, like I said earlier, I’ve been playing BotW on my PC but I’ve gotten to the first shrine that uses gyro and so I’m waiting to get a Steam Controller to continue playing that, so I decided to do GoW. I’ve only done one playthrough and that was quite a while ago but I figured maybe I’d run through it once then do NG+ and try to explore and do everything I can. I’m guessing though that I’ll run into the same NG+ issue that I ran into with Spider-Man 2 and others. In my opinion, if I’m doing NG+ then just let me play the game. I don’t need to be slowed down by all these cut scenes and other minute character development moments. I. Just. Want. To. Play. The. Game. I don’t want to be in control of a movie. I understand you took a long time with the cinematics and the motion capture and the story and all that but I HAVE witnessed it in my first playthrough so now step aside and let me play the game. Or at the very least let me be able to skip these moments. A lot of the time you can’t. If I want to engage with the story again I could, I’d have the option/ability to do so with another new playthrough. I just don’t understand the lack of these kinds of options.
So. Going back to my wish list games; I’ve been thinking of the games I want and if no one else will make them then I should make them myself. Not likely going to happen since I’m not going to quit my job to try and do something like that but it would be nice. For me, personally, I’d make low/no stakes games. Something I’d call a “comfort” game. I’ve said that Assassin’s Creed 4 is a comfort game. I can just throw that on and be content for hours. There’s just all sorts to do and failing really doesn’t matter. There’s a couple games I play on my Steam Deck on break at work that are fun but there’s just some things that get in my way. Haste is one of these games. It’s like if a modern 3D Sonic game was good. Very brief description of the plot is you’re running away from crumbling dimensions and as you progress the crumbling gets quicker so you have to be better, make fewer mistakes, ect, but I don’t want to. I really like the game, I like the gameplay and as such I just want to run. I just want to try and do the levels better without being chased by the darkness and when it catches up to me I have to start over. Terror of Hemasaurus is another one. It’s like Rampage and it’s fun but when you go from level to level you are stopped by the story telling you that global warming is bad, uhhh I think there’s some other things and like yeah, I get it, global warming bad but again, I just want to play the game. One other thing that was slightly annoying when playing with my friends is we had like a bonus stage where we had to see who could destroy a building fastest and once two of us did it the stage didn’t end. We had to wait for the third to destroy his building and for some reason he was having issues. Again, I understand, “It’s our game, we’ll do what we like, don’t like it then make your own” but I’m not gonna go and make another Ramapge clone when one is already here and does most of what I’d like. Haste is probably a skill issue and I just need to play it more or look for tips online but again, I’m just playing it on break, I’m just looking for something to distract from the NPCs I work with, I don’t want to think too much, I just want to have some fun.
So that’s that. Summer Game Fest airs in a few hours, again, not really excited. The only thing that typically gets me excited at this point is Nintendo, everyone else just kind of does the same things on repeat. The only thing I’m watching for is the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion. Not because I’m excited to play it but the opposite, I’m hoping to see it and I’m hoping it does nothing for me. I’m hoping the monsters I’ve been wishing for to be added to the games for years now are not the ones they add. I would really love it if they showed the Wilds expansion and then also showed just a sliver of a tease for the next “portable/spin-off” game. I’m horrible, I know. (Edit: Wanted to make a prediction before tonight; I think the Monster Hunter Wilds expansion is coming out this fall.) I really enjoy how Monster Hunter Stories 3 looks, I really wish I wanted to play it more but I’m just not looking for that kind of gameplay right now. I’m just in the mood for instant action (BotW, GoW, Metroid Dread) and not turned based. So anyway, I’ll leave you to it. I’m gonna go yell at “boy” some more I guess. Laters.
Uhhhhh, picture, picture, Linkle I guess?
