To Frost Giant Studios

Image
Hello. I wrote the bulk of this before watching some podcast with Frost Giant Studios. The reason for the changes is because Frost Giant asked questions to us, the players, the community, what have you, so I figured I’d trim the fat and try to put more thought into my reasons. It’s probably still going to be long so bear with me. First off, Frost Giant is a new developer made up of some former Blizzard employees and they plan to make a new RTS. They have a lot of good people from the looks of it. The game director was the lead campaign designer for The Frozen Throne so that’s promising. If you read my last post you know how much I love Frozen Throne. But this isn’t going to be what I want from an RTS so much but rather what I liked and disliked from my past experiences. For me, I’ve pretty much only really got into Blizzard’s RTS games, WarCraft and StarCraft. I’ve played others but they’ve just been cumbersome or the scale is just overwhelming. I tried playing Supreme Commander. ...

Blizzard and Warhammer 40,000

Image
Hello hello. This post I want to talk about Blizzard and Warhammer 40,000. Basically just  things that I like from each, dislike and the hope that each could maybe learn from each other. I have a  lot of thoughts and I hope I can make everything coherent and flow well so let’s get to it.             The thing I can appreciate from both Blizzard and the Warhammer 40k games is the expansions. I know that I am in the very small minority that plays campaigns of competitive multiplayer games but that’s what I do and Blizzard is a big reason for that. I grew up with WarCraft 2 and StarCraft. WarCraft 3 is what I played the most both single player and random 2v2s but the thing I remember from each of them was how the difficulty curve went up in the expansions. I never finished The Dark Portal or Brood War without cheating and I’m not even convinced I finished Frozen Throne all the way t...

Wish List 2020

Image
Hello. I haven’t been writing too much. Been kind of busy with things, been working on some  projects kinda, if that’s what you want to call it. I thought I’d do another wish list type thing. Most of  this list is just stuff I forgot to mention last year but here goes.             First I’d just like to hit on some things from the last wish list. The new big thing with “tires” for Nintendo this holiday seems to be the Mario Kart Live game/RC car. I mean it’s cool and all and if this came out when I was a kid I would totally want it but I’m not so it’s a tad disappointing for me. No new Mario Kart this year. But Monster Hunter Rise is a thing and I’m pumped for that. That’s part of the “projects” I’ve been working on, maybe doing some videos for MHR when it comes out. @H4mmerBros playing Monster Hunter again. But we’ll have to see how things go. The other games...

Pokemon Generation Tier List

Image
Hey all. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to think to do this but here it is. This is my relatively simple (simple, lol) listing of Pokemon generations from worst to best. You’ve seen other people’s videos on the topic, you’ve played the games, I’m not going to breakdown the premise and plot of all of them. I’m just going to say what I feel about the game and why it made me feel so. I already know that the ones I like the least are some people’s favorites for some reason so harden up. Let’s go! Worst to best! Boom! GEN V My least favorite in the core franchise is Black/White, Black 2/White 2. I could’ve SWORN that HeartGold and SoulSilver came out in the middle of these two but the internet says no so I’m not sure if that hurts or helps BW at all but either way it would’ve been on the bottom. First off it just looks so bad to me. Like I don’t typically rag on games for not looking good as long as they’re fun but after Diamond/Pearl and HeartGold/SoulSilver, which all lo...

Tom Clancy Shared Universe

Image
The Tom Clancy games need a reboot. Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon all take place in the same universe and make slight references to each other but other than that they don’t really interact. I think it’s considered that The Division takes place in a different Tom Clancy universe considering the story and the fact that, well no, it’s the STORY. The other three are kind of struggling in that department; Rainbow being multiplayer only, Splinter Cell being MIA and Ghost Recon using old story lines badly. What I’m looking for is a shared universe where the events of one game bleed into the others or even if the different teams sometimes work together. Ghost Recon Wildlands and the other that shall remain nameless each had a mission with Sam Fisher but it wasn’t anything too exciting. I think the Rainbow 6 Siege tie in with Wildlands was pretty good though. Aside from when I got Caveira stuck on a rock and couldn’t complete the mission… but… anyways. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 had ...

Hey! You Got Your Lore in My Mulitplayer

Image
Alright, let’s do this. This is one thing I have a very strong opinion on; Lore in multiplayer only games. I don’t mind story and lore if it applies but most of the time it’s just shoehorned or forced. Just let the game be a game. PLEASE!             Let’s just start with what I’ve been playing the most, Apex Legends. Apex is the only battle royale I’ve played because I don’t very much care for the style of BR or hero shooters. I like the formula of Unreal Tournament 2004 and Halo 3 (picked the Halo I played the most) where everyone starts with the same gear and has the same chances to get weapons and power ups on the map and it’s about your skill as a player. It’s fair. Battle royales are based a lot on chance and hero shooters are based a lot on character abilities. Sure it’s great when you outlive an opponent that has gold shields when you had blue but most of the time the person with the bigger stick is going to win. The re...

Hard Mode

Let’s talk about “hard mode.” Back in the day games didn’t have different difficulties. They were what they were. Mostly a trial and error sort of system and you learned from your mistakes. Games started to put in different difficulties, making enemies more aware or putting more enemies in a given area but then things got a little lazy. Most games now define hard mode as, “you take more damage and enemies have more health.” Seems fair.             I used to like playing games on higher difficulties. I was an achievement hunter type even before achievements and trophies and in most cases there were no way to prove you did what you said you did unless you physically showed someone your memory card. I did absolutely everything on Naughty Dogs’ Crash Bandicoot games, I gave myself carpal tunnel so bad it woke me up at night from holding the X button so hard in CTR for so long and I painstakingly did everything in Vice City , to nam...
