Monster Hunter Fighter

H-hello? Everything is working? Oh good. I recently did some updates for my PC to pave the way for Windows 11 and everything is actually working on the first try, yay. So what’s the first thing I do with a basically new PC? Install and play (for a minute) old, shitty games! Yaaaa! I mean, I didn’t upgrade because I was trying to get better quality in my games but it’s still funny that I look at my Steam library and I’m like …Portal…Fear…Street Fighter X Tekken… But playing Sunbreak and seeing SFxT made me think about the 2D Monster Hunter fighting game I’ve been wishing for for years. As I’ve said over the years, I’m a very casual fighting game player. I just like to have fun playing against CPUs, maybe my buds, but I don’t really want to go hard at it. I’m not looking to be “pro” or competitive; I just want to push buttons and do stuff so there are better people to come up with how each monster would fight or behave in relation to other fighters but I’m just throwing the idea out there and hoping one day Capcom will happen upon it and be like, “…I guess…”

I know I have said before that each monster could have a 1P and 2P colors based on their base form and then a variant but most fighters now have a plethora of color palettes to chose from and I really think Blood Orange Bishaten should be a character versus the base Bishaten. (I’m gonna call it “BOB” okay?) I think BOB is really cool. He’s got these exploding pinecones that he can toss or smash on the ground for a short frontal blast. He’s got this like, spin-y evasion move he could use to get behind an opponent. He’s got a really cool kit as far as I’m concerned.

I have a lot of Rise monsters on this list… I think the Goss Harag would be cool, I love his ice shard projectile attack, his ground pound shockwave and his two different “moods.” Changing from blue form to red form could maybe give him different moves or makes certain moves stronger. The jumping ground pound could be a way for switch sides with the other character. He could have his ice beam to stun the other monster for a second.

I think the Aknosom is another good candidate. It could be very light on its feet and dodge quite easily. I kind of have a vision of it doing it’s like, backwards, upwards kick, going into the air and gently floating down. It could do a dodge that puts it on the other side of the monster and then of course it has its fire ball attacks that could be used.

I kind of like the idea of the Almudron being in it too. He could maybe just be mostly submerged in the ground and do a lot of mud throwing attacks and summoning mud pillars.

Magnamalo I think would be cool, maybe too fast though. I just see it zipping through the air constantly while trying to slam into the other monster.

I actually think the Gammoth could be in the game as well. People keep wanting it in a mainline Monster Hunter but he hasn’t made a reappearance but I think he could be in this fighter. I see it being like an Iron Tager type, just overly huge, takes up half the screen, very slow. It can throw snowballs, it can pound its feet, it can shoot a cone of ice, don’t know what else it could do.

Is it necessary to make separate paragraphs for each monster? I don’t know; Tigrex could be there, he’s got his back and forth train attack, he can throw rocks, roar real loud. Spin. Zinogre can pound its hands, send out lighting bolts in a line, backflip tail slap. Barioth I see bouncing off the side walls of the TV, like he jumps to the edge of the screen, sits there like it’s a wall and jumps off. Brachydios can pound pound pound, head pound into an outward explosion. Rajang just being Rajang. Big punches, lightning beams, jumping cannonball attacks. Gigginox can spit poison, maybe jump up to the top of the TV and hang down for grabs or more poison spit. Scream.

In another post I had said maybe the Rathalos could be the “boss” type character, and maybe he could be the last monster of the arcade mode but he HAS to be in there. Pretty sure it’s a contractual thing at this point that Rathalos must be in any type of Monster Hunter game. But I think the real boss, the “secret boss” should be the Valstrax. It can do some zoom attacks to make it go past the opposite side of the screen and enter back in on that same side. It could do its Armored Core laser wing attack that covers up the whole bottom half of the screen. Maybe some missiles. You know, whatever, Valstrax is cool.

I don’t know, just some thoughts. I had kind of wanted to have a little more input for each monsters moves but I’m not that good at thinking about that kind of thing and I just wanted to get something out because I haven’t written in a while. So what do you think? Any ideas for the monsters I’ve listed? Any ideas of your own of monsters that could make an appearance? Let me know down below and I’ll be back someday, bye-bye!
